CAADRIA2025 Workshop

Open Call for Workshop

As part of CAADRIA 2025 TOKYO, we invite proposals for workshops to be held from the 22 – 25 March 2025 - immediately prior to the main forum. The aim of the workshop program is to provide an open platform for discussion of cutting-edge topics and methodologies in the future built environment, and to give them the opportunity to be realized as installation works. Workshops will be 4 days and should relate to the conference theme – Architectural Informatics.

Submissions will be jury selected to be conducted as a part of CADDRIA 2025 TOKYO Workshop. The workshops will take place at Faculty of Engineering Bldg.1 which will be the venue for CAADRIA 2025 TOKYO. Workshop authors and participants will have the opportunity to present their workshop deliverables at the CAADRIA conference. Also, their installation will be on display during CAADRIA and will be judged and awarded. Workshops will also be promoted as a special feature on the CAADRIA website.

 

Outline

  • Proposals with a high degree of originality and feasibility will be given priority.

  • Maximum eight workshops will be selected from among those submitted.

  • Workshop authors (hereafter referred to as "workshop instructors") and participants will work in groups of 5 to 10 people to produce final output.

  • After participants are selected, workshop instructors can use the online preparation period to interact with their group members.

  • Workshop instructors are required to speak at the roundtable session, which is a panel discussion that will be held during the workshop period.

  • Award judging will take place during the CAADRIA conference. The judges will be announced later.

  • All of the workshops has to be in English.

Benefit

Each selected workshop instructor will be given up to two free CAADRIA conference registrations.

2025

  • Jan. 31st Notification of participants

  • Mar. 22nd - Mar. 25th, 2025. Workshop(On-site)

  • Mar. 26th, 2025 Presentation before the CAADRIA opening

  • Mar. 26th - 28th, 2025 Evaluation period

  • Mar. 28th, 2025 Announcement of evaluation results (tallied in the morning, announced in the evening during the closing ceremony on the 28th)

  • Mar. 29th, 2025 Dismantling of exhibits (after the technical tour)

Workshop Schedule

Restrictions on exhibits and production

  • The total length, width and height of the installation must be within 7 meters.

  • The items included in the equipment and materials list may be used in the production. You may bring your own equipment and materials, but you may not purchase any other items to use.

  • The cost of transporting your own equipment and materials is not covered.

  • Proposals are welcome to be prepared with team sponsors who will provide equipment and materials other than those provided by the organizers. Proposals will be reviewed for feasibility.

  • Preparation can be made at the workshop venue 3 days prior to the workshop.

  • The maximum budget per workshop is 150,000 yen

  • Please use materials listed on the material list as much as possible. If you need products that are not listed on the list, such as electronic devices, please contact workshop@caadria.org along with the URL of the product page on Amazon Japan to inquire whether they can be used.

  • Workshop proposal (About A4, max. 4 pages, PDF)

    • The workshop’s conceptual framework and objectives.

    • A brief outline of the schedule and structure of the workshop.

    • Minimum and maximum number of workshop participants.

    • Any particular requirements for workshop participants – e.g. be required software knowledge, access to certain tools, hardware or material, etc. (Ideally, workshops should be accessible to participants of all levels.)

    • Any particular things for workshop participants - e.g laptop computer, software, other device, etc.

    • Description of software and hardware if available from workshop instructor

  • Production schedule including equipment usage schedule (About A3, max. 1 page, PDF)

  • Material estimation including information on required quantities of materials selected from the materials list (About A3, max. 1 page, PDF)
