Post Conference Tour

Overview

After CAADRIA 2025, immerse yourself in the diverse charm of Tokyo through a series of Post-Conference Tours—short excursions for small groups.
Each tour spotlights a unique aspect of the city, from visits to architectural offices to walks through fascinating local neighborhoods. All tours take place within Tokyo’s 23 wards.
We hope you’ll join us in exploring the many layers of Tokyo!

You can sign up for the tours via the Peatix page linked below.
Each tour has a limited number of spots and registration will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
To ensure that as many participants as possible can join, each person may sign up for one tour only.

Participants will have the opportunity to visit a newly established center by Haseko Corporation, one of Japan’s leading general contractors, set to open this spring. This tour will offer insights into Haseko’s vision for the future of condominium sales driven by digital technologies, along with an introduction to the initiatives of their in-house Digital Technology Lab.​​

Participants will have the opportunity to visit Kengo Kuma & Associates, one of Japan’s most internationally renowned architecture offices. This tour will offer a behind-the-scenes look at the firm’s design philosophy, ongoing projects, and how the office integrates digital tools and traditional craftsmanship in its architectural practice.

Title: Asakusa / Ryogoku Downtown Edo-Tokyo Tour with Cherry Blossom

Time: March 29th 13:30 - 16:30

Participants will take a springtime walking tour through the downtown districts of Edo-Tokyo, from Ryogoku to Asakusa, timed to coincide with the cherry blossom season. Highlights include a visit to the Sumida Hokusai Museum, designed by Kazuyo Sejima, which celebrates the life and work of the iconic ukiyo-e artist; and the Asakusa Culture and Tourism Center, a dynamic landmark designed by Kengo Kuma. The tour concludes with a scenic boat ride along the Sumida River, offering a unique view of Tokyo’s urban landscape framed by blooming sakura trees.​​

Participants will stroll through the areas such as Yanaka, Sendagi, Nezu, and Ueno neighborhoods—areas that retain the atmosphere of Tokyo’s prewar streetscape. This tour offers a rare glimpse into the slower-paced, everyday life of the city, highlighting traditional wooden houses, small local shops, temples, and cemeteries, while also touching on how this historical fabric coexists with contemporary urban developments.​​

Participants will visit the Daikanyama area, home to Hillside Terrace, a landmark mixed-use complex designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Fumihiko Maki. Built in phases from the late 1960s to the 1990s, Hillside Terrace exemplifies Maki’s concept of “group form” and remains a pioneering example of urban integration, blending architecture, landscape, and community life in a low-rise, human-scale development.

This tour delves into how the area has transformed from a postwar electronics market into a global center for digital subcultures, while also examining its dense urban fabric, layered signage, and the unique spatial typologies shaped by consumer culture and technological change.​​
